Biological Safety Cabinets
These cabinets are primary containment devices that provide protection of personnel, the environment, and the product (depending on the BSC model) when working with biological material. It is important to ensure that BSC is certified when it is initially installed, annually, and when it is relocated. Testing is performed in accordance with NSF/ANSI 49-2002. These tests are performed to ensure that the BSC is operating properly and that there is no risk to the operator or the surrounding environment.
The Primary tests performed are:
- Downflow velocity profile test
- Inflow velocity test
- Airflow smoke pattern test
- HEPA Filter Leak test
- Cabinet integrity test (A1 cabinets only)
- Site installation assessment tests. (includes alarm functions, blower interlock and exhaust system performance.
Additional tests can be performed relating to worker comfort and safety and are usually performed at the request of the customer or at the discretion of the certifier. These tests do not have an impact on the pass fail criteria of the BSC in accordance with NSF/ANSI 49-2002.
- Lighting intensity
- Vibration
- Noise level
- Electrical Leakage, ground circuit resistance, and polarity tests
HEPA Filter Services Inc will provide complete certification including a full certification report and certification sticker affixed to the front of each Biological Safety Cabinet.
All Biological Safety Cabinets we certify are tested in accordance with NSF Standard 49.
